More Information for Registered Delegates

We’re so glad you’ve registered to be a Nevada Girls State delegate! We hope you’re as excited to join us as we are to meet you! This page will give you some more information about the program.

What You Can Expect

Nevada Girls State is a fast-paced academic program presented by the American Legion Auxiliary (ALA). The week-long program teaches young women about state and local government through hands-on experience. We require delegates to participate in all activities and be present for the entire session. Additionally, it is important for you to understand that:

  • People are expecting and planning on your attendance (as a delegate). If you have registered, you need to make arrangements to ensure you can attend (such as taking time off from work, making sure the time is blocked out on family calendars, etc.);
  • This is an Americanism program, and it is a study of City, County, and State governments;
  • The views and opinions presented by Guest Speakers do not necessarily represent the views of the American Legion Auxiliary or its members, or of the staff of Nevada Girls State;
  • You are expected to show respect to all Guest Speakers, though you don’t have to accept the views or opinions they express; and
  • Nevada Girls State is what you choose to make it!

Activities

In addition to the governance-centered learning experience, other activities at Nevada Girls State include:

  • voting
  • public speaking
  • campaigning
  • the opportunity to hear from a number of outstanding guest speakers
  • singing
  • a talent show
  • patriotic ceremonies
  • a field trip to the Nevada Legislature in Carson City
  • the development of lifelong friendships

Special field trips include visits to the White House, Arlington National Cemetery, monument tours, and a day on Capitol Hill meeting with U.S. Senators and Representatives. Girls Nation is offered at no cost to attendees. Our attendees are selected at Nevada Girls State. For more information:
