2026 participants attended with all of their fees covered by sponsors.

It costs about $850 to send one participant to Nevada Girls State. Donors and ALA Units cover the difference, so every family or school pays less than half the real cost.

What you’ll do

Participants (we’ll call you delegates during the session) split into two faux political parties, campaign and run for city, county, and state offices, and write, debate, and vote on their own legislation. In 2026, participants wrote 67 bills. At the end of the week, two participants are elected to represent Nevada at ALA Girls Nation in Washington, D.C.

“Girls State has been such an amazing experience! I’ve had so much fun, learned a lot, and honestly, I’d totally do it all over again!”

Amanda, Reno, NGS 2024

Questions

Nope! Everyone who meets the requirements and registers is accepted. We’ll contact you as the session gets closer to make sure we’ve received all your paperwork and fees.

See our Packing Checklist. Dorm beds don’t come with bedding, so bring a twin fitted sheet, a sleeping bag, and a warm blanket.

You can, but you won’t need to. We provide three meals a day.

Note any dietary requirements on the Medical History and Insurance Coverage form in your Waivers Packet, and we’ll make sure you’re accommodated.

From Las Vegas, it’s about 9 or 10 hours, depending on stops.

Usually pleasant, but it gets cold at night and early in the morning, and it can change fast. We’ve had heavy rain and even snow in June. Pack warm clothes along with lighter ones.

We don’t have a store, but we sell some Nevada Girls State sweatshirts and sweatpants from past years at cost.

Usually 6 to 8 hours a night. It depends on how much you campaign and how late you stay up talking with your roommates.

UNR has guest Wi-Fi. Device use is limited to certain times of day, and you bring electronics at your own risk.

No. For safety, delegates stay on campus all week, except for field trips that are part of the program.

If there’s a family emergency and you’re not bringing your daughter home, please don’t tell her during the session. It separates her from her support system and puts her under a lot of stress while she’s away from home. If you do plan to pick her up early, contact the Director right away, and tell your daughter only once you’ve arrived on campus.
